Aurorix shows space weather and cloud data for planning aurora trips. It is not safety, travel or scientific advice. Read what it does not cover.

Planning aid, not a promise

Aurorix shows when the sky is dark, when cloud cover is low and how active the geomagnetic field is. It cannot say that aurora will appear. Even at a high chance value the lights can stay out of sight, and at a low one a short burst can show up.

Third-party data

Kp values, the OVATION model and the 3-day forecast come from NOAA SWPC. Cloud cover comes from MET Norway. We do not edit them. Errors, outages or late updates upstream will appear here until the next refresh. Every page shows when its snapshot was fetched.

What is not included

  • Moonlight, light pollution, horizon obstructions and the exact spot where you stand.
  • Road conditions, avalanche risk, wildlife and weather warnings. Use your national weather service for those.
  • Aurora in the southern hemisphere and places outside the six pages.
  • Solar flares, radio blackouts and radiation storms, which NOAA covers on its own site.

Safety

Aurora hunting happens at night, often far from help and in temperatures well below freezing. Tell someone where you are going, carry a charged phone and warm clothing, and never rely on a web page to decide whether it is safe to be outside.
